PRESS RELEASE FROM THE COMMITTEE…….
We’re back – yes the Graham Edwards memorial trophy starts just after the Euros on July 11th. After having to cancel the 2020 tournament due to Covid, the committee are busy working hard in organising this year’s tournament.
For the benefit of the many new residents of Gobowen, the Graham Edwards Memorial Trophy was set up in 1975 after Graham, a promising young footballer, sadly lost his life to leukaemia. Local teams compete for the trophy every year raising much needed funds for leukaemia research. We have now raised over £150,000 to date – a great effort for a small village.
So for the new residents, welcome to the village. We hope you will come down to the playing fields, grab yourself a tea or coffee and take in a game or two. Raffle tickets are sold during the game – this is how we raise our funds. Even if football isn’t your thing we urge old and new supporters to show their support.
Many people think their money won’t make a difference, and their attendance won’t be missed , how wrong that is.
Every single donation goes to helping to fight leukaemia and over the years we have seen amazing success rates of people winning their battles.
The village over the years has lost many community events due to lack of support but the Graham Edwards memorial trophy has managed to keep going for over 40 years. Please keep a look out on the trophy facebook page for updates.
We would in advance like to thank everyone for supporting the Graham Edwards memorial trophy this year and the Parish Council who have been very helpful this year and many previous years in supporting the tournament.
We will of course be following any government guidelines on Covid .
