Gobowen, Selattyn, St Martins and Weston Rhyn Local Joint Committee
I am writing on behalf of the Gobowen, Selattyn, St Martins and Weston Rhyn Local Joint Committee to invite you to attend the public meeting of the Local Joint Committee.
At this meeting we will be receiving important update on Shropshire Council’s Big Conversation, from the Chief Executive of Shropshire Council. Like all local authorities, we’re faced with the need to make substantial savings in the coming years. Over recent years, we’ve made a commitment to continue to provide services in light of government cuts, but faced with the need to make further substantial savings over the coming years, we’ve been put in a very difficult position. With this in mind, we need a Big Conversation with you to talk about what you feel are the solutions to the financial challenges we face. This will be a great opportunity for Parish Councils, local organisations and residents to hear the latest and to raise ideas.
We will also be able to share important partnership developments for Gobowen Library and what this will mean for you as a local resident or group. Providers who have been commissioned to deliver youth activities in the area will also be present to update on their first steps into delivery in the area. Three Parishes Big Local will be updating on their current work, funding applications and future aspirations as a key partnership in the area.
The meeting will be held at St Martins School, St Martins, on Tuesday the 23rd February, 2016 (please note new date). Doors open at 6.30pm to give you a chance to talk to your local. Councillors and Shropshire Council Staff. The meeting proper will begin at 7pm. As a key individual or group in the area we would very much hope that you will be there to help add to discussion. Please feel free to share on with your local networks. A poster for the LJC will follow in due course.
Items on the agenda for the meeting include;
- The Big Conversation and Financial Strategy– to receive an update from Clive Wright, Chief Executive for Shropshire Council, with an update on Shropshire Council’s Big Conversation and the Financial Strategy.
- Update on Gobowen Library – an update will be received on the work of Gobowen Library Partnership and the recent formal consultation.
- Update on Youth Commissioning – an update will be received on activities commissioned for youth activities in the area.
- Update from Three Parishes Big Local – an update to be received on the work of Three Parishes Big Local and future opportunities for local residents and groups.
- Public Question Time – opportunity for residents and local groups to raise any questions
- PACT Meeting (Partners and Communities Together) A representative from West Mercia Police will be in attendance to hear any concerns or issues you may wish to raise.
The general background to Gobowen, Selattyn, Weston Rhyn and St Martins Local Joint Committee
LJCs bring together Unitary (Shropshire Council) and Parish Councillors drawn from the local area. Meetings are held up to three times a year to enable local people to have their say about local issues and get involved in decisions affecting their community. The committees have the power to call in members of the Council, or senior officers, to question them over decisions affecting the area.
The Gobowen, Selattyn, St Martins and Weston Rhyn Local Joint Committee covers the parishes of Gobowen and Selattyn, St Martins and Weston Rhyn including for example Brogynton, Pant Glas and Hengoed, and moves to different venues and for variety of local items.
A full agenda will be available on the Shropshire Council website (www.shropshire.gov.uk ) in due course and a small amount of paper copies will be available at the meeting.
This is an excellent way for people to be able to get involved in decisions about their local community and to question councillors or council officers about decisions they have made or want to make, as well as providing an opportunity to put forward their own views.
I very much hope you can join us for the next meeting 7.00pm on Tuesday 23rd February 2016 at St Martins School, St Martins (please note that this is a change of date from that mentioned at the last public meeting). If you have any local issues you wish to raise or any projects needing help with funding, please contact me on 01691 677306 or by email – firstname.lastname@example.org
Look forward to seeing you soon,
Community Enablement Officer
